And Another Great Review For "Adventures in India!"

Thank you All Things Book, for reading and reviewing BOTH books (so far) of the Charlie Smithers Collection!

4.0 out of 5 stars An exciting tale March 30, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
4 Stars

An exciting tale taking place in India. With plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting, this story will keep you turning the page. I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the countryside and people. Set in 1863, Mr. Lovatt has tried to maintain some historical accuracy while writing.

This story has great character interaction, and an exciting plot. I liked most of the characters, especially Doctor Simpson and Cheeboo.

Two More Great Reviews For "The Adventures of Charlie Smithers"!

This book is outside of my normal genre of reading, but came across it through a book club. I was hooked from the first few pages. By the time I was a third of the way through I was completely invested. When I came to the end I was disappointed that it was over.
The lead character is the Forrest Gump of his era in history. He stumbles on amazing discoveries and true love during his adventures in this book.
The characters are rich and three dimensional. Easy to get lost in. The scenery is amazingly vivid and well written. I would recommend this to any who likes a little adventure in their reading. Loved it!

This book hooked me from the start. Great character interaction and a plot full of riveting twists and turns. A great job of accuracy with the time periods: events, culture, geography, and demographics. This book would make a great movie. With a humorous and deeply tragic storyline, I feel people of all ages would enjoy this story. I am even recommending it to my son's high school librarian.

The only issue I have with this book, is the cover doesn't do the story justice.

The Adventures of Charlie Smithers - A Sensational Review!

Thank you, Randy. For a first time reviewer, you done good - damn good, actually...
Also, I should mention here that book three, "Charlie Smithers: Adventures Downunder," is in the works, I just submitted the manuscript this morning.
One last thing, I can remember being devastated seven years ago, when I heard of the death of my idol, George MacDonald Fraser. With that in mind, perhaps you can better understand how I feel when I find myself compared to him today, not at all unfavourably.

I've never written a review of a book before, but I'm an avid reader. I'm currently reading the 2nd Charlie Smithers book and can't put it down. But, I'm writing about "The Adventures of Charlie Smithers Book 1" today. CW Lovatt is the closest thing to George MacDonald Fraser that I've come across and believe me, I've been looking and reading what I can find. CW has a style that is his own that reminds one of GMF and the Flashman character, but doesn't at all make you feel like you are reading a Flashman book. Charlie is a man of principle and compassion and not the "cad' that we all came to love in the Flashman series, but a man of his own, There's no need to go into the story as the many review about this book already have, but please do read this great book and be glad that you have another to read immediately after Book 1.

Josiah Stubb - Hard to Beat This One!

This is an absolutely wonderful review for Josiah Stubb! Follett and Rutherford? That's heady stuff!

Thank you Sandra Brown Rarey!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining!, March 16, 2015
Josiah is a thoroughly sympathetic character, both likable and decent in spite of his sordid past. He chooses the military as an escape from a life he can no longer bear, and finds himself in circumstances so perilous he doesn't expect to survive. His love for a girl back home sustains him as he endures the war, hardships and extreme abuse. I cannot say enough about how well-written and interesting Josiah Stubb: The Siege of Louisbourg is.I have always been fascinated by The French and Indian War (our name for The Seven Year War) and was delighted to find this treasure. The historical facts in this awesome tale make a panoramic backdrop for the story of this ordinary boy with the heart of a hero. I am a historical fiction buff and have found I enjoy C.W. Lovatt as much as Follett and Rutherfurd. I highly recommend this book.

How Deeply Gratifying

Two years ago, Alec Hawkes first read The Adventures of Charlie Smithers, and has been doing everything that he can think of to promote my work ever since. I don't think that I need tell you how deeply gratifying that is. I'm not sure that I could even if I tried.
The following is his latest post on Facebook:

"What can one say about genial Canadian writer Chuck Lovatt that hasn't been said already? His quite brilliantly written books have been compared to many past greats in the historical fiction category, but I would most definitely elevate him right above them. Lovatt's ability to take the reader on a journey that is totally filled with virtually every emotion known to human kind is second to none. The characters are expertly formed, with absolutely no unnecessary rush, and with aplomb. The reader will progress through the early stages of a story from Chuck Lovatt feeling practically on first name terms with all of his characters, such is the imagination with which he describes them. As the tale unfolds you will be helpless to leave, though you won't want to. You will not want the story to end, but it does and you will be very soon clamouring for more from this genial author. Suffice to say, I highly recommend the work of C.W.Lovatt to all who love to read the work of the very best. You will find purchase links below. Thank you."

Charlie Smithers: Adventures in India - Another Great Review!

Thanks Viv!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, exciting, and hard to put down! February 28, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
C.W. Lovatt is remarkable! Yet another wonderful treasure to read!

We continue to follow Charlie Smithers as he travels through India with a collection of characters ranging from bumbling idots to extremely conceited.

As before Charlie is almost killed by his gentleman, Lord Brampton as they head off to find a wild tiger. Lord Brampton is not one with good aim, except in his own mind, and comes close to killing Charlie.

They hear a scream and turn their attention to the direction it came from and all in the party headed out. They see a man's body laying on an offering stone and a woman tied to a stake. A man is getting ready to light the stake on fire when Lord Brampton decides to shoot him, misses and grazes the woman's arm. He runs to get her down and apologizes over and over again.

I could go on but I don't want to ruin it for you.

While reading "Charlie Smithes: Adventures in India" I laughed, shook my head at the shenanigans and ended up on the edge of my seat at times.

This is definitely a book I highly recommend. I know you'll love it.
