The Adventures of Charlie Smithers - Manuscript

At long last, I received the manuscript this morning. Now all I need is time - blissful, uninterrupted time - to go over it. With winter coming on, and so much yet to do outside, that might not be as easy as I'd hoped. Anyway, I've given it a quick perusal, and so far, haven't found anything that they wanted to change. So maybe, just maybe, this can be wrapped up in weeks, instead of months.

One other thing, the copyright page caught my eye. Maybe it's a small thing, but it's all part of a dream coming true:

Cover Art - Phase Two

Now tell me that this isn't exciting.

I thought that I'd add the preliminary drawing to make it easier to judge the progress being made.

Flight Plan

Although it's an online newsletter, the folks at Flight Plan were good enough to send me the November edition in hardcopy, complete with my story, Roll of Honour, inside. I'm happy to report that they did a flawless job. I'm also happy to report that mine was the longest story, and thought that it gave it a sort of 'Star' quality. Actually, I think it was the only story that was fiction. I don't imagine that they print very much of it, not being a literary newsletter. So this is also a first - the first time any of my work has been published outside the literary venue.

Charlie Smithers - Cover Art Sketch

This is a very rough, very preliminary sketch of the cover for The Adventures of Charlie Smithers, by Peter Fussey, the designer at Wild Wolf. I caution you to remember that this is only preliminary. There will be changes, but I do like the over-all concept. Actually, I'm thrilled with it. This is the first time I've ever seen a visual interpretation of any of my work. So few writers get that chance.

Galbraith - Out of the Running

I just found out today that neither of my stories advanced to the finals in the Galbraith Award. How do I feel about that? Rotten mostly, although I know I shouldn't. This year has already been one to remember, and if success is measured by recognition, I have two more stories that have gained that - this being the first time out for both of them. So give me a day or two to throw off this downer, and to stop feeling sorry for myself. There's plenty more to look forward to.
